COVID-19: Click to view our complete coverage, updates on the pandemic The agony and the ecstasy: PLCB to expand curbside pickup, online fulfillment to almost all stores next week The North Side’s Ann Gilligan was determined to order some wine to pick up curbside at the new Fine Wine & Good Spirits store on Fifth Avenue, Downtown. So as soon as it was possible to place a phone order on Monday, she started calling and getting a busy signal, calling and getting a busy signal. Redial. Redial. Redial. “I’m sure I looked a little possessed.” Late Tuesday afternoon, she finally heard ringing ... and a human answered. Ecstasy! He told her orders had to be placed between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. so she had to try the next day. Agony! Curbside service expands at Pa. liquor stores starting today The store employee did give her a nice tip: Don’t try right at 9 a.m. Wait until later in the morning, he said. It’ll work. Wednesday: Redial. Redial. Re — It worked! The same guy answered, and it turns out he really knows the store’s wines. He patiently found one of the bottles Ms. Gilligan likes for around $10 and suggested another she would like, too. She was impressed. “That’s more than you know when you go into the store to shop.” A quick drive through a very quiet Downtown on Thursday and she pulled up to the store, and within a few minutes she drove off with the bottles for which she’d already prepaid by credit card. She’s a pretty happy customer. While she thinks the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s decision to close all of the stores last month due to COVID-19 “maybe wasn’t so smart,” and don’t even ask her how many times she tried the PLCB’s online store, “I thought the order by phone was great.”

LOOP also provides order templates, customizable reports and data exports to help you track wine and spirits sales and manage your business. FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com: Our e-commerce website, FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com, offers the opportunity to purchase rare wines and spirits, unique products and collector’s items and have those products delivered straight to a business, home or any Fine Wine & Good Spirits store location. The site features about 1,200 to 1,500 online exclusives not available to purchase anywhere else in Pennsylvania, including Limited-Release Lottery items reserved for licensees. The 10 percent licensee discount applies to qualifying orders purchased online. Special Order (formerly Special Liquor Order, or SLO): If you can’t find a particular product in your local store, explore the product catalogues at FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com to see if the product is available through Special Order. Our Special Order team will do everything we can to obtain the wines and spirits you want to buy. Tens of thousands of products are available through Special Order, and many suppliers make certain wines and spirits available only to licensees through Special Order.

Pictured is the agency's distribution center in Allegheny County.Submitted by PLCB By Charles Thompson | cthompson@pennlive.com Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is in the second day of online liquor sales. With the state-owned liquor stores closed since March 16 because of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s an attempt to safely restore an enjoyable creature comfort to many adult Pennsylvanians in this time of self-deprivation. Or, depending on your perspective, it’s another source of rising frustration in a world where they never seem to end. Interest in the new system is high, however. In fact, the agency has said nearly 278,000 people tried to place orders on the website Wednesday, during the first day of digital sales. You have questions. So PennLive went in search of some answers about the program. Here are the answers provided by Elizabeth Brassell, spokeswoman for the PLCB. Q: You say you are opening the online sales portal at random times during the day to avoid overburdening the system. Can you offer an explanation about how the “randomization” works? Is it computer-programmed? Or a staffer deciding when to open up the portal? And within that, can you say are there any times of day that the system is definitely closed?
